The custom-product quoting gap.

Every custom product is quoted twice.

Once when the buyer asks, in their words: walnut, 84 inches, the brass base. And once when somebody with the price book turns those words into lines. The gap between the two is where the studies put the cost: 71% of manufacturers take a day or more per quote, and 88% say they have lost a deal because the number came too late (Aleran 2025).

The gap is not a skills problem. The person with the price book is usually the best rep, or the estimator, or the owner. It is a location problem: the rules live in one head and one spreadsheet, and the buyer is asking somebody else.

The tools that exist were built for the other end.

Configurators were built for the factory: they need a jamb depth before they show a price. CPQ suites were built for large sales teams and priced per seat. That is why 43% of configure-to-order companies still quote from spreadsheets (Tacton 2025). Only 12.5% of furniture brands have automated configuration with pricing (Intiaro 2026).

Buyers, meanwhile, ask in plain language, at 6 p.m., on their phone. A tool that answers that way has to know the catalog, the options, the pricing rules and the buyer, and has to refuse to guess when a rule is missing.

What closes the gap.

Three things, in the order the studies rank the pain. The rules written down once, as recipes and matrices a machine can apply. An answer where the buyer asks, in the buyer’s words, with the render and the price together. And a quote the buyer can approve from the email, so the number and the yes happen in the same hour.

Two platform facts, ours. Lee Industries prices 3,585 frames in 1,023 graded fabrics from one matrix. CAI Designs quotes those frames in Fabricut fabrics from one chat.
